Twidroyd (formerly Twidroid): The Best Twitter App for Android

Although Twitter's own app for Android is certainly packed with features, Twidroyd is great for those looking for more.

Arguably the best Twitter app for Android, Twidroyd (formerly known as Twidroid) offers a plethora of features that just won't find anywhere else. With this free app, not only can you view and manage your tweets, mentions, and direct messages from one clean interface, but it is also possible to manage multiple Twitter accounts with ease.

Twidroyd includes all of the features found in Twitter's own app, and adds dozens of new features that aren't available elsewhere, such as the ability to view web pages, photos, and videos in-frame, view near-by tweets, and manage multiple accounts without having to log in and out of the different ones.

LivePreview

The most innovative feature found in Twidroyd is LivePreview, an innovative tool that lets you see mobile-formatted web pages without ever having to leave the Twidroyd app. To take advantage of this feature, just click on a tweet that contains a link; the first option listed on the pop-up menu that appears is LivePreview.

The app then runs the requested web page through a service that formats web pages for mobile devices, and voila, you can view web pages in-app. Although the service doesn't always format the pages correctly – for example, articles from Gizmodo are sometimes preceded by the names of the entire editorial staff – it generally does a good job providing pages that would normally be hard to read on a mobile device.

Managing Multiple Accounts

Another extremely useful feature of Twidroyd is the ability the manage multiple Twitter accounts from one user interface without having to create an account with a third-party service; apps like TweetDeck and HootSuite are good alternatives if you have multiple Twitter accounts that you need to manage, but they force you to create an account with their own services before you can begin.

Switching accounts takes three taps: press the ubiquitous ellipsis in the bottom right corner, press the “Accounts” button on the pop-up menu, and choose the account which you wish to manage. From there, you can interact Twidroyd's simple interface to manage your account.

Twidroyd's extremely simple interface and its variety of features that cannot be beat by any other Twitter app on the Android Market, make it the de facto Twitter app for Android. You can pick it up for free by searching “Twidroyd” on the Android Market, or pay a nominal fee of $3.99 for an ad-free version that helps support the developer.
